From October 21st to October 22nd the ACTION Support Centre in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, Regional Service Centre for Africa, hosted the fourth continental level Members Consultation Meeting of the African Insiders Mediators Platform (AIMP). This year the theme of the meeting was Consultation for the African Insider Mediators Platform: Best Practice Consolidation and Validation of the Mapping of Infrastructures for Peace.
Over the past six months the African Insider Mediators Platform has developed a draft of a Mapping of Infrastructures for Peace. This meeting welcomed over thirty African insider mediators from all over the continent to assist in identifying capacity gaps that can be addressed by the AIMP as well as examples of good practice, in preparation for a research process that will seek to identify and showcase examples of effective insider mediation.
The meeting offered participants an opportunity for sharing best practices and experiences of successful mediation and peacebuilding initiatives from across the continent. This process helped support the production of knowledge products on best practices in the field. Participants were also able to validate, strengthen and share the mapping research findings in order to make recommendations for the next draft of the mapping; and finally to strengthen and extend the existing network of insider mediators in Africa.
The ACTION Support Centre, as the secretariat of the AIMP, was very honoured to host this meeting and looks forward to the future developments of the African Insider Mediators Platform.
